To improve diagnosis of hidden hearing loss
Classical electrophysiological tests (e.g., auditory brainstem responses) do not allow to probe the number and the functional properties of the auditory nerve fibers. Here, we set-up protocols of acoustic stimulation together with electrophysiological signal processing to detect loss of ANFs in auditory neuropathies in which the audiogram are normal with speech in noise understanding alterated.
Neural noise at the round-window response. To improve cochlear implant post-surgery
Cochlear fibrosis is a common finding following cochlear implantation. Here, we develop pharmacological strategies to reduce electrode insertion trauma and cochlear fibrosis in order to improve the residual hearing in implanted patients.
Aracytine-C reduce cochlear fibrosis in platinum wire implantation model. Cochlear fibrosis was induced by implantation of a silicon-embedded platinum wire (a). Note that aracytine reduces the cochlear fibrosis (b), prevents neuronal loss (c) and improves electrically-induced auditory brainstem responses (d, Jia et al., Neuroscience 2016)
